Seljord municipality has nearly 3,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​711 sqm. The municipality is located in western Telemark and borders with the municipalities: Vinje, Kviteseid, Fyresdal and Valle / Bykle in Setesdalen. The highest point in Seljord is Brattefjell at 1541 m above sea level.
 
Seljord municipality is located in the middle between east and west; 17 miles from Oslo, 28 miles from Haugesund and 2.8 miles from Bø. Seljordsvannet is approx. 15 km long, 1.8 km wide at the widest and 145 meters deep on the deepest.
 
Through art history, many painters and other artists have found motives and inspiration in Seljord. Seljord municipality has one of the country's richest and most vibrant folk music and folk art traditions. Much of what is today's national heritage is taken from the municipality, both adventures, fairy tales and local oral traditions. The sea-serpent is also a central part of Seljord's cultural history.
 
Dyrsku'n in Seljord host the yearly fesjå / Telemark Cow, which was arranged for the first time in 1866. Fesjå has developed into a significant agricultural exhibition and is today the largest of its kind in Norway with approx. 90,000 visitors each year. The Country Festival in Seljord was organized for the first time in 1999 and is also the largest of its kind in the country. 
 
Seljord is the trading center in Western Telemark. Europavei 134 passes through the municipality of Flatdal, then to the south to the village Seljord where the road also meets the highway 36 from Bø and Grenland, before the road goes west towards Haugesund and Bergen. Seljord is a traffic hub for bus buses that provide good connections to Oslo, Bergen, Grenland and Torp.
